Remote Working Is the Future of Work

Working with remote engineers helped our previous company succeed.

Many of us are acquainted with the story of the founding of Rover, a company created by Vijay and myself while still attending Stanford University. We successfully secured venture capital funding and eventually saw the company through to a successful acquisition.

It was hiding something.

Our unconventional recruitment approach was the driving force behind our success. Despite the majority of engineering managers and venture capitalists in Silicon Valley advocating for everyone to work within the same office, we decided to take a more unorthodox approach and hire outstanding individuals, regardless of their physical location. This shift in strategy was not made to make a statement; instead, it was a necessary move in order to ensure we could maintain our high standards while keeping costs low.

Silicon Valley is currently facing an escalating lack of talented personnel. Recruiting high-calibre engineers in the local area is both costly and ineffective.

As a result of recognising the need for reliable engineers, Works was created to provide a solution. With Works, you can quickly and easily access a pre-screened selection of engineers from all over the world with just a simple click of a button.

AWS servers can be scaled to accommodate great-quality talent. It’s as simple as that.

To scale an engineering team in Silicon Valley, remote work is key

As the world increasingly relies on software to fuel its progress, the demand for highly-skilled software engineers has skyrocketed and the local talent pool is no longer able to meet this demand. This has become a particularly pressing issue in the San Francisco Bay Area, where housing, real estate, visa, and immigration constraints have all hindered the growth of the tech industry. It is clear that Silicon Valley has reached the limits of its capacity for expanding its workforce, and it is now necessary to look outside of the region for engineers to meet the industry’s needs.

Data on employee retention also reveals a dismal picture. The typical Silicon Valley engineer is with the company for 13 months. When you take into account the time it takes to employ (1-2 months), onboard (1-2 months), and handoff (0.5 months), you have around nine months of productive work. This is terrifying — and it’s a major reason one out of every ten firms fails in the first year.

With a Single Stroke, Deploy the World’s Smartest Workers

Works was founded with the clear mission of addressing the global problem of IT skills shortage. We strive to be meticulous in our selection of engineering talent from all around the world, taking into account not only their technical abilities but also their aptitude for communication and working remotely.
Our pay-as-you-go service requires no minimum commitment from you. You will only be charged for the actual hours worked. We take care of the complexities of working with remote freelancers, such as time tracking and payments, and all you need to do is press a button and let us handle the rest.

Remote work will be made to be enjoyable.

Working with remote engineers can be a difficult task, and in the past, it has been associated with late-night calls, communication struggles, and difficulty integrating them into the team dynamic. With the Works platform, it has never been easier to manage your remote staff. We provide you with the tools to ensure that communication is open and continuous, that remote engineers are part of the team and feel an active sense of engagement, and that managing them is just as simple as managing your local/on-premises staff.
At the outset, we assess the amount of time zone overlap that exists between yourself and the rest of your team. To improve productivity, advanced management strategies must be implemented. Fortunately, Works offers a platform which enforces remote management procedures through artificial intelligence. This AI technology creates comprehensive profiles of individual developers based off of the real-time work they produce. Furthermore, it examines data from code, Asana, Slack, email, and other communication sources to ensure that the quality of output remains consistently high.

Deep learning has unlocked a range of unexplored possibilities. We are committed to utilising detailed developer profiles to automatically assess developer proficiency based on actual work they have completed. These profiles are comprehensive, informative, and continually updated, which helps to facilitate deeper matching and provide engineers with tailored advice to help them advance their careers.

Works will make managing remote teams more enjoyable for both managers and employees by leveraging automation, artificial intelligence, and product design that is tailored for remote working environments. These features will allow for an improved experience for both managers and their team members, making it easier to collaborate and communicate from a distance.

Opportunities are not universal, but talent is.

Around the world, there is an abundance of talented engineers. We recognise that where one is born should not dictate where they are able to work and succeed. We are dedicated to ensuring that the world does not miss out on the brilliance of individuals simply because of the area in which they were born. We are actively searching for the world’s “Lost Einsteins” and providing them with the most essential thing of all: opportunity.

The opportunity to be a part of Silicon Valley and change the world.

Despite growing up an extensive distance away from Silicon Valley, my colleague and I, Vijay, had the opportunity to contribute to the tech industry due to the fact that we had met at Stanford and resided in the epicentre of the Valley. We envisage a future in which the next wave of creators can shape the world without the requirement of migrating to Silicon Valley, owing to platforms such as Works.

The Future of Remote Work

When searching for the best of the best in the workforce, it is important to look beyond the confines of your immediate locale. Thanks to the advancements in communication technology, it is now much more feasible to manage a business that combines in-house and remote employees. Platforms such as Slack, Asana, Trello, Jira, and Blue Jeans, combined with the ubiquity of smartphones, have made tasks that were previously thought to be inefficient or even impossible a decade ago, now quite possible.

We believe that businesses can benefit from a different method of development – one that incorporates a smaller internal engineering team, supplemented by an extensive network of highly-skilled remote engineers. This approach could offer a more efficient and cost-effective way of achieving desired results.

We are revolutionising the way we work by designing a virtual workplace that is highly appealing to remote engineers. Rather than relying on physical workspaces, we are ushering in a new era of collaboration and productivity that focuses on digital solutions.

It is not uncommon for large corporations, such as those belonging to the Fortune 500, to recognise the immense value of utilising distributed or remote teams. This is evidenced by the sheer number of multibillion-dollar companies that are heavily reliant on these teams.

We are here to help you change the world.

The power of innovative thinking has the potential to shape the future. As you embark on a project that excites you, Works is here to ensure that you have the right personnel to bring your vision to life and bring about meaningful change in the world.
