Through research, you can gain a comprehensive understanding of the qualifications and skills that are needed for success in this field. Additionally, gaining insight into the job market and the current trends in the industry will help you to better understand the qualifications required for the position. With this information, you can then begin to build the skills and qualifications that are necessary to secure a successful position as a Cloud Enterprise Architect.

  1. Linux

Cloud Enterprise Architects should be well-versed in the design, maintenance, and administration of Linux servers, as Linux is a popular operating system used in cloud development. With its open-source nature, ease of customization, security, and other attractive features, Linux is a programmer’s dream. Cloud providers are increasingly implementing Linux due to its numerous advantages, making it an important tool for Cloud Enterprise Architects to understand.
  2. Computer programming

As an Enterprise Cloud Architect, one should be well-versed in numerous programming languages, such as SQL, Java, Python, Ruby, Golang, PHP, and .NET. The importance of developers in the tech sector cannot be underestimated when it comes to cloud computing capabilities. Developers can create, deploy, and manage applications in a relatively short period of time. This is a major advantage of cloud computing as it allows for scalability and stability.
  3. General network administration and virtual networks

As Cloud Enterprise Architects, it is essential to comprehend the importance of networking in relation to cloud computing. The Cloud facilitates the sharing of centralised computer resources to clients, which has triggered an upsurge in the offloading of network administration tasks to the cloud, thus reducing the need for consumer devices to manage the network.
  4. DevOps

For software developers and operations engineers, the challenges they encounter on a daily basis can be difficult to manage, particularly in a variety of settings. DevOps is a way to bridge the gap between development and operations, by combining them into a single package and removing task dependencies. Having a good understanding of DevOps operations is a valuable asset for employers, as DevOps is now a widely adopted approach to cloud engineering.
  5. Containerization

Containerization is an effective method of packaging software, allowing it to be isolated from its operating environment. This separation affords a greater degree of flexibility, allowing container-based applications to be deployed rapidly and reliably, regardless of the environment – be it a private data centre, public cloud, or a developer’s laptop. Gaining an understanding of popular containers such as Kubernetes and Docker will help boost your curriculum vitae, not only in the cloud sector, but across the entire software industry.
  6. Software Administration and Deployment

Cloud Enterprise Architects need to have the necessary skills and expertise to install and manage application software on virtual machines. Virtualization technology is an essential requirement for organisations to have access to resources that are both scalable and fault-tolerant. A good foundation of knowledge on virtualization and services such as virtual machines, EC2, and Lambda is a key step towards achieving Serverless Computing, and is thus considered an imperative prerequisite for becoming a top-tier Cloud Enterprise Architect.
  7. Application programming interfaces (APIs) and web services

As a Cloud Enterprise Architect, it is important to be familiar with open standards such as XML, SOAP, WSDL, and UDDI (Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration), as well as the principles of constructing application programming interfaces (APIs). Having a thorough understanding of these concepts is a key part of being an effective Cloud Enterprise Architect.
